Resurfacing paved Pool Surrounds

What does one do when pool pavers are too bumpy? Here the paved surface was not suitably level for outdoor furniture and in places, even difficult to walk on!

Natural and practical

Recognising the headache of having to rip up paving around an existing pool, this homeowner was astute in researching a range of resurfacing and paving alternatives, to replace this worn and impractical surface.

Wanting to avoid a rip out and replace at all costs, some options included installation of new raised decking in line with the coping an application of self levelling screed with a fresh set of 50mm pavers placed on top.

Thinnest paving resurfacing

Of course homeowners with pools will be familiar that all pool fencing must be at least 1.2m high, clear off the base of the paving. Raising the pool surround risk the pool owner running into non-compliance issues, not to mention the complications either re-setting the fence or cutting pavers round the spigots if not moving them.

Similarly, there were fixtures in place such as the pump house and its swinging doors, steps and pool coping which all would prove too problematic to repave at difference over 50mm with pavers.

StoneSet for paver resurfacing

Thankfully, a 16mm topping of resin bound ‘beach’ stone was the perfect solution for the area. Not only practical and cost effective but the sandy coloured stone brighten up the pool surrounds with a tropical beach atmosphere.
